Class Announcements 1st Grade MusicHello First Graders!!!
We heard all about the Brass Family today with Chris Deupree (Mrs. Deupree's son) demonstrating everything from an early herald trumpet and hunting horn to the tuba. While some of the instruments were dented and rusty, they still played quite well! Students heard Chris play the bugle, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone and tuba, learned about "buzzing" their lips, valves and mutes! Thanks to Mrs. Schab and Mrs Sweeney for coming in on January 29th and teaching us all about the String Family of instruments! Mrs. Sweeney and Mrs. Schab played the viola and violin for us. They told us about all the parts of the instruments and the bow and played several songs for us. Our favorite was the sing-a-long finale they played for us -- SpongeBob Squarepants! What a fun time we had learning about the String Family! A few weeks ago, Mrs. Deupree demonstrated all of the woodwind instruments. We heard the high piccolo and flute and the low bassoon as well as the oboe and the clarinet! We also checked out the saxophone! Since returning to school, we marched with rhythm sticks in the Penguin Parade and used lots of movement words in a Snow Dance! We also met our new composer, Serge Prokofiev. A talented composer writing music for operas, ballets and symphonies, Prokofiev is most famous for his children's symphony, Peter and the Wolf. In this story, each character is portrayed by a specific instrument in the orchestra. We will use our time with Prokofiev to complete a 2-month unity learning about all the instruments in the orchestra! We will also experience the wonder of the ballet production of Peter and the Wolf. We learned musical Italian words for loud and soft - forte and piano! Now we've learned 3 more Italian words for music tempo - that means how fast and slow music goes. Our new words are largo, moderato and allegro! See if your student can tell you about these new words! We have also learned about Music FORM - or how songs usually follow patterns! We still sing in every class and having fun making music! 1st Grade Music ScheduleMrs. Burnett: Monday

Our locomotor skills have become "multi-part". We have done somersaults and pencil rolls. We have begun playing hopscotch, then next week, we will be learning to jump rope! Get ready for some FUN! ![]() Pre-Kindergarten Music & MovementHAPPY FEBRUARY PRE-K!!!
We are continuing to working on catching and now bouncing (dribbling) a ball! We have also practiced somersaults and pencil rolls. Try all these things out at home! We have also been balancing and hoppping on 1 foot for several weeks. We put this to practice this week on a hopscotch board. While working on a pattern of 1 - 2 - 1 - 2, we used 1-foot, 2-feet, 1-foot, 2-feet to move up and down the hopscotch board. Try drawing one on your driveway and doing the hop-jump pattern! We'll be learning some new songs about snow while we look for that white stuff outside our windows! These are some of the skills we have been working on in M & M!
Parents: Tennis shoes provide for the best safety and support in Music & Movement as well as on your child's daily trips to the playground. Please remember those tennis shoes everyday! Discussion Topics |
